Health Ministry Probes Korle Bu and Ridge Hospitals Over Unethical Conduct
The Ministry of Health has launched a high-level investigation into allegations of unethical medical practices at two of Accra’s major public healthcare facilities: Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH) and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital, commonly known as Ridge Hospital.
The probe follows growing public concern over alleged unauthorized practices and lapses in professional conduct within the two state-run institutions.
Independent Committee Constituted
The Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has constituted a seven-member committee to conduct an independent and comprehensive inquiry into the allegations.
The committee is chaired by Alhaji Dr. (Pharm) Inua Yusuf, Esq., Director of Legal Affairs at the Ministry of Health. According to the Ministry, the committee’s mandate includes:
- Investigating specific reports of unethical medical conduct
- Assessing the effectiveness of existing governance and oversight mechanisms
- Recommending measures to prevent future unauthorized or unethical practices
Scope and Timeline
The committee has been given a tight timeline to complete its work, with a final report and recommendations due by February 10, 2026.
Other members of the committee include representatives from the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA), and selected Civil Society Organizations (CSOs).
Public Confidence and Accountability
Health sector observers say the investigation is critical to restoring public trust in Ghana’s healthcare system, particularly in major referral hospitals that serve thousands of patients daily.
The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the inquiry will be conducted transparently and that appropriate action will be taken based on the committee’s findings.
